This oil painting is part of my roadside sunsets series. I wanted the beautiful blue sky to take up most of the canvas with its delicate wispy clouds above the colorful setting sun and the heavier dark earth at the very bottom grounding and weighting the image.

Many times I have been coming back into town from a trip or trek of mine during sunset time. Along the freeway, there can be big vistas open views of the sky. I took many photos of the beautiful sky that evening. The sky remained almost the same as the sun fell below the horizon and lit up the wispy clouds but the ground and terrain changed and gave me many varying wonderful subjects to paint.
